Tips for Moms: Preparing Your Child for School Routines
Aug 05, 2021

While enjoying play dates helps your child learn to socialize with other children, it's also important to prepare your young child for school routines and events. Some of the best tips for moms preparing their children for school include using fun calendars and colorful child-friendly boards to check off events and chores. Even when your child is a toddler, consider introducing a few of the concepts such as setting an alarm clock to wake up at a certain time, packing lunches and balancing play with "work," such as clean-up time.

Getting up in the morning

Encourage a sleep routine since sleep is an important part of health. Research the optimal sleep schedules and amount of sleep for their age category. Talk about how to shift a sleep schedule based on factors such as and weekend playtime or special outings. If traveling to visit relatives in another time zone, talk about ways to adjust.

Experiencing the lunch time ritual

Organic experiences as well as organic food feeds the mind, body and soul. In addition to food for the mind, you can create special lunchtime rituals by getting the lunch packed together the night before. Some ideas include making raw food smoothies for long packed with chia seeds for fiber and raw spinach. One trick is to hide any flavors your children don't like with something sweet and overpowering such as apples or lemon juice.

Going on family field trips

In the fall, the best field trips include visits to the apple orchard and pumpkin farms. You can connect the field trip to home life by bringing home apples to use for baking a pie. Other fun outings include a trip to an organic community garden where people grow fresh produce. Depending where you live, you could rent out a plot in a community garden to grow produce with your child's help. Going on family field trips prepares your child for school field trips.

Enjoying playtime or recess

As a parent and learning guide, stay focused on promoting health, balance and well-being. Your child is more likely to learn when they feel good. Children often have to sit for hours on end in the traditional school setting. Maintain a positive attitude about exercise so your child wants to exercise during recess instead of sitting. The best tip for moms is to be a good role model. Whenever possible, exercise with your child by walking to a park or going together on a bicycling trail.

Unless you take your younger children along with older siblings to school events, they will have a smaller frame of reference for school. Communication is key as children move through the educational system
